Alumni’s Scholarship Fund
In 1963 the BTA set up a Scholarship Fund in order to assist needy pupils of Boys’ Town and its members who require financial assistance to continue or further their studies. To achieve this goal, we went about organizing activities such as talentimes, variety shows, walkathons and dinners to raise fund.
Within the first few years of its inception, the out flows of funds were primarily basic in nature viz outright bursaries for pupils i.e.:-
Assumpton English School
Bursaries for both primary and secondary pupils
Assumption Vocational Institute
Bursaries
Boys’ Town Home
An adoption of an orphan
As we progressed into the 70s, our financial standings became stronger thus, we not only increase the quantum of the awards, we also extended the fields to include the following so that more pupils could be assisted:-
Assumption English School
A grant to assist pupils to purchase text books. This was later changed to a milk scheme whereby cash was provided for the purchase of milk for needy primary pupils, in addition to a grant for leadership development of student leaders in the secondary section.
Assumption Vocational Institute.
A grant for the purchase of tools for needy pupils.
School Leavers
Bursaries for GCE "A" Level or Higher Technical Studies
Members
Loans for studies in approved Institutes of Higher Learning
Others
To encourage pupils to strive for the best, a Challenge Trophy with a small token is awarded to the most outstanding pupils of Assumption English School and Assumption Vocational Institute for the year whilst book prizes is awarded to members’ children.
During the last few years, circumstances changed and as bursaries were made more easily available by the various community organizations, the number of needy pupils that required assistance also reduced substantially. In addition, we also found that some pupils are not willing to come forward to be assisted though coaxed by their teachers thus we took a bold step in reviewing our system of awards to the pupils of Assumption English School and Assumption Vocational Institute. Under our new system, we no longer identify the pupils to be benefited. Rather, we allot an amount to the Principals and permit them to use their discretion on the best usage of the fund for scholastic purpose.

Since 2001, we undertake to sponsor an ITE Course Medal to a pupil who scores top performance in his course. The sponsorship entails a cash award of $100 by BTA with "Boys’ Town Alumni" engraved on the obverse of the medal.![]()
